Speedwatch
Police forces are making more use of police support volunteers. The SpeedWatch group in Fleet is organised by the police and supported by Fleet Town Council.
SpeedWatch is made up of local volunteers and its role is to remind to drivers of the speed limits. Small teams of volunteers work at the side of the road, recording the details of passing vehicles that are speeding. When a passing vehicle is traveling above a certain speed, the volunteers record its details and pass them onto the police who will get in touch with the vehicle’s Registered Keeper advising them of their speed and reminding them of why it is a community concern – it’s for education only; no tickets, points, or fines.
If speeding issues persist it can be escalated so that enforcement can be undertaken by the police neighbourhood policing teams.
