What is a SINC?
Some of the most important wildlife sites in the county are protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest but there are also many other important wildlife sites which also contribute to the ecological network in Hampshire. To safeguard these sites, they are designated as Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs).
The woodland at Oakley Park and the heath and woodland areas at Basingbourne Park are both designated SINCs.
Our Friends of Groups
While the council handles maintenance, infrastructure, and improvements, the ‘Friends of’ groups bring the community together for events, fundraising, and restoration.
Holding volunteering days throughout the year, from painting equipment to clearing scrub, they do it all! They also put on a number of social events, such as easter egg hunts, nature walks and fetes.
Our joint efforts have helped secure numerous South & South East in Bloom awards over the past years, a testament to what we can achieve when the council and community work hand in hand.
